Verena Barbosa is a filmmaker and journalist who lives in Galway, Ireland. She writes and directs live-action stories for both children and adults.

Her narratives explore philosophical ideas, contemporary social dynamics, heritage, ancestral knowledge and environmental awareness, often blending Irish and Brazilian cultures through magical realism and Third Cinema Ideology.

She also founded Brazil on Screen, a cultural platform showcasing Brazilian cinema in Ireland supported by the Brazilian Embassy and recognized by the Irish Government.

As cinema curator and events producer, Verena has contributed to Culture Night, Galway Film Fleadh, and Climate Action Festival, often collaborating with local partners like Silent Cinema Galway, Charlie Byrne’s Bookshop and Pálás Cinema.

She holds an MA in Film Studies from the University of Galway and has had her storytelling advised and mentored by Nora Twomey of Cartoon Saloon.

Right now she's working with Macalla Teo on her upcoming series, writing her first feature film, producing events and trying to start a band.
